Why Take Riding Lessons?

At Cadence Equestrian Center we believe that riding and caring for horses teaches life-long lessons of responsibility, discipline and compassion, and also improves balance, flexibility and overall physical fitness.  Our program provides year-round professional riding instruction and is geared for all types of students — not only do we welcome those seeking recreational horse-back-riding instruction, but we also provide the facility and instructors for those with goals of competitive showing and winning State, National and World Championships. 

We specialize in Hunt Seat riding instruction for children age 5 & up as well as adults.  Our large indoor arena provides for year-round riding in a comfortable environment.  We provide safe “school-master” horses & ponies and well-maintained tack for all of our lessons.   Safety is our first priority & our program emphasizes the importance of being safe and smart around horses at all times. 

We also host fun-filled horse camps throughout the year.  Horse camps are excellent supplements to riding instruction where students can learn more advanced skills in horsemanship, safety, caring for horses, farm chores, arts & crafts and horse-back-riding instruction.  Your child will love the camaraderie of spending time at the ranch learning all sorts of fun & exciting things about horses!

What Are The Lesson Options?

Our program offers both group and private lessons.  Group lessons offer camaraderie where you or your child can enjoy riding with other students whereas our private lessons offer more individualized attention between the student and the instructor.

What Will Be Taught?

From beginner to advanced, riding instruction is tailored to suit the student’s individual needs and goals.  We realize that all students progress at different rates and adjust our lessons accordingly.  We believe that horsemanship is as important as riding and we encourage older students to learn to tack and groom their own horses, and put them away after their lessons.  For the younger students, we incorporate games on horse-back where students learn to steer, stop, back, walk, trot, etc. but in a “fun” manner.

What Should Be Worn?

All students are required to wear appropriate riding attire including riding breeches/tights or jeans, English paddock boots, half-chaps & a Certified Riding Helmet.  We have a limited number of CEC helmets that can be provided for your first few lessons.  Athletic shoes, loose or baggy clothing, jewelry and chewing gum are safety hazards and are not permitted.  All visitors to CEC are required to wear closed toed shoes while on CEC property.  The following locations and websites are great resources for helmets, riding apparel & other horse supplies:

CEC RIDING ACADEMY

POLICIES & GUIDELINES

• Full tuition is due no later than the first week of each session.  There is a one week grace period, however, if an account is not paid in full by the first business day of the third week of a session, there is a $20 late fee charged to the account.  For those signing up after a session begins, we will pro-rate tuition and fees will be due on the first day of attendance.
• There is a $20 charge on all returned checks.
• CEC schedules make-up lessons only if a 24-hours notice is given.
• Deposits for birthday parties or camps are non-refundable.
• Due to the limited number of slots we have available and the popularity of our riding academy program, you must notify the office if you are not returning for the upcoming session.
• In order to reserve you slot for the next session, a minimum of a $50 deposit is required by the last week of your current session.  The remainder balance is due no later than the first week of the new session. 
• All students must have a liability & release form on file.  This form gives us important information on how to reach you in case of a problem or emergency.
• Closed-toed shoes are required to be worn by all people – including parents and siblings – while on CEC property. 
• If dropping off your child, please arrive at least 10 minutes before his/her lesson ends for pick up.
• We welcome parents to watch lessons, but please watch your children on the outside of the gate/arena.  It is not safe to be inside the arena with horses going by and also it causes the horses to want to stop at the gate.
• Please try to refrain from “coaching” or “critiquing” your child during his/her lesson.  This is distracting to not only your child, but also to the trainer and to the other children in the lesson.
• Please supervise all children who are not attending lessons at all times and make them aware of all barn rules.
• Do not feed any horse – this includes apples, carrots, cookies, sugar, etc — without asking permission of the instructor.  Some horses have stomach issues & allergies associated with such treats.  Please inform not only any child taking lessons, but also their siblings & friends as this is very important to the health and safety of the horses.
• Never enter any stall or pasture on the property.
• Please do not park in front of dumpsters, trailers, shavings piles, etc.
• Please do not let children play in the shavings piles.   
• There is no running or yelling on the property as this may frighten the horses.
• Do not bring bikes, toys, scooters, balloons, balls, etc. to the barn as this may frighten the horses.
• Do not handle any barn animals including horses, dogs, cats, goats, etc.
• Do not bring animals from home to the barn.
• There is no smoking on CEC property.
• The speed limit on the property is 10 mph.  Please watch out for children, horses & barn animals.
• In cold weather, please keep barn doors closed.
